Megalopolis

As a founding city in the first half of the 4th century BC, as one of the main cities of the Achaian League and as home to the historian Polybios, Megalopolis is of particular importance from both a historical and archaeological point of view, especially for the Late Classical and Hellenistic periods. Excavations on site in the past decades have revealed extensive results. The project focuses on the study and publication of previously unpublished finds of the Agora excavation (1991–2003, Prof. Hans Lauter), the creation of a digital archive for the Agora excavation as well as a critical re-evaluation of the history of the ancient polis from its beginnings to late antiquity.

This includes new inscriptions, honorary monuments, a prosopography of the polis, coins and further small finds from the Agora.
