Christine Schwanecke focuses primarily on English drama from the early modern period to the present day, gender studies, intermediality, literary and genre theory in general, and narratology in transgeneric and cultural studies in particular.

She has been Professor of English Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of Graz since October 2021 and Head of the Centre for Cultural Studies since July 2023. From 2016 to 2021, she held a W1 professorship for English Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of Mannheim; in 2019/2020, she held an interim chair at Justus Liebig University Giessen. She is also the coordinator of the PhDnet at the University of Graz.
