Atmospheric and environmental science with focus on atmospheric remote sensing and climate change (more information under http://www.wegcenter.at/en/arsclisys):

  • Analysis, detection, and attribution of climate trends in atmospheric climate data records with focus on radio occultation (RO) observations)
  • Analysis of climate variability and atmospheric processes
  • Evalulation of global climate models with observations
  • Comparison of observational climate data records (radiosondes, microwave soundings, RO, reanalyses)
  • Intercomparison of RO records from different processing centers and coordination of the International RO Trends working group
  • Error analysis and characterization of RO data
  • Sonification and visualization of climate data
  • Investigation of the climate monitoring and atmospheric change detection capability of GNSS occultation observing system (OSSE)
  • Contribution to scientific algorithms of the EGOPS (End-to-End GNSS Occultation Performance Simulator) software tool
  • Contribution to scientific studies for the Atmosphere and Climate Explorer (ACE+) Mission (selected by ESA in May 2002 as top priority future EEO Mission, postponed after Phase A)
  • Utilization of RO data for studying stratospheric gravity wave activity
  • Retrieval and validation of RO data and processing advancements
  • Atmosphere - ocean interaction and the carbon dioxide cycle in Biosphere 2
  • Effect of temperature inversions on air pollution in urban areas
