Esin Gizem Göksoy is a PhD candidate at the CSEES and a university assistant in the team of Prof. Bilgin Ayata working on the topics of migration and racism. She has a background in sociology and political anthropology. Before joining the CSEES, Göksoy has been researching and teaching with a focus on intersectional migration at the Institute of Ethnology at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich (2019-2021). After completing her double B.A. degree in Sociology and Philosophy at the University of Trier in 2017, she continued her anthropology focused master’s studies in Intercultural Communication at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. During her studies she worked as a student assistant at the Institute for Intercultural Communication. In her master's thesis titled ‘Migrantisierte (Un-)Sichtbarmachungen. Eine kritische Perspektive auf die Causa Özil als Seismograph gesellschaftlicher Wahrnehmungs- und Darstellungsformen’, which received best grading in 2019, she analyzed the socio-political entanglements, affective (self-)subjectivizations and narratives, drawing on the politics and affects negotiated in Germany around the debates surrounding Mesut Özil’s resignation from Germany’s national football team and the context of the Turkish presidential and parliamentary elections in 2018. Her research interests include intersectional migration studies, racism, and affective dimensions of migration and politics.
