Martina Bär

Dr. Martina Bär is professor for Fundamental Theology at the University of Graz and heads the Department for Systematic Theology and Liturgical Studies, which focuses its research on the interplay between art and religion. Bär is a co-founder of the international research network on the “Iconic Turn in Christian denominations” (Iconic Turn in den christlichen Konfessionen - iconic-turn). She is the spokesperson for the Theological Research Focus on Women and Gender Studies at the Faculty of Catholic Theology in Graz. Her doctoral thesis focused on the idea that humans are created in God's image, for which she received the Maria Kassel Prize by the University of Münster (Germany). Bär has authored numerous publications and gives lectures both in Austria and internationally. Other research interests: Late-modern cities and religion, interfaith dialogue – with a particular focus on antisemitism – and political theology.
