Ralf Vollmann (孙学仁) studied Linguistics, Tibetology, Anthropology at the university of Vienna (Austria); he worked at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (Linguistics, Acoustics Research Dept.) on child language acquisition, phonetics and linguistic databases, and is now professor at the University of Graz (Linguistics). Theses: M.A. on sociophonology/phonetics (monophthongization in Viennese German), Ph.D. on morphological language development; habilitation on ergativity in Tibetan (typology, optional case marking and historiography). Recent research projects: (a) sociophonological research (dialects/variants in Southern Austria, 'Styrialects project'), (b) language acquisition in children with genetic syndromes, (c) multilingualism, Hakka and other languages in South-East Asia, Hakka language in Europe. Teaching: Typology (case-marking), grammar theory, sociolinguistics (variation, multilingualism, standards and vernaculars).
