Maia de Oliveira Wood, Guilherme, Univ.-Prof. Dr.phil.
About me
I am a psychologist and professor of neuropsychology. I am particularly interested in combining technological innovation with cognitive science in the training of future (neuro)psychologists. To this end, I am involved in the new Master's degree program "Computational Social Systems", which has been offered jointly by the University of Graz and Graz University of Technology since October 2021. In addition, as a member of the profile-forming area Complexity of Life(COLIBRI), I am committed to investigating neuronal plasticity as the brain's ability to organize itself as a dynamic system.

Short biography
Under the supervision of Prof. Vitor Geraldi Haase, I discovered my interest in neuropsychology and wrote my master's thesis on the effectiveness of cognitive training for elderly adults. In my doctorate (under Prof. Klaus Willmes) and habilitation (under Prof. Heinz Wimmer), I worked on numerical cognition and spatial-numerical associations. With my position in Graz, I discovered neurofeedback as a technique to induce neuroplasticity as well as the so-called neuroenchantment as a powerful obstacle to objective thinking about scientific evidence. Nowadays, my academic goal is to develop and validate high-tech tools for neuropsychological rehabilitation. Therefore, I spend most of my time characterizing psychosocial confounding effects such as placebo, expectations and suggestions on the interventions under evaluation.
