I am Professor of Climate and Environmental Economics at the Institute of Economics at the University of Graz. Previously, I worked at the University of Bath, UK (2012-2018), University of Exeter, UK (2009-2011), University of Stirling, UK (2007-2009) and University of Hagen, Germany (2001-2007).
I work in the field of environmental economics and public goods, in particular on international environmental agreements. I have published widely in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Public Economics, European Economic Review, Oxford Economics Papers, Journal of Public Economic Theory, Social Choice and Welfare, Public Choice, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Environmental and Resource Economics and Environment and Development Economics. I have also published several books, including Game Theory and International Environmental Cooperation (Edward Elgar, Cheltenham, UK, 2001).
I have been Co-Editor of Environmental and Resource Economics for several years and have been guest editor of special issues of this journal, the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and Oxford Economic Papers. I review regularly papers for journals such as American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Games and Economic Behavior and Journal of Environmental Economics and Management. I also frequently serve on the scientific panel of the annual meetings of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists.
I was President-elect of the German Society for Environmental Economics (2008-2010) and Past President-elect (2010-2012). I was a Lead Author of the 5th assessment report of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Working Group III, which was released in 2014. Currently, I hold the position of Head of Institute, Chair of the Curricula Committee of the doctoral programme at the School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences and am Principal Investigator of the Field of Excellence Climate Change at the University of Graz.
