Steffen Schneider studied German and Romance languages and literature in Cologne and Genoa. He passed his first state examination in Cologne in 1998. From 1999 to 2002, he was a scholarship holder at the graduate college Pragmatization/Depragmatization - Literature in the field of tension between its autonomous and heteronomous determinations at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen. He completed his doctorate in 2003 with the thesis Archivpoetik - Die Funktion des Wissens in Goethes 'Faust II'. 2004-2011 research assistant at the Romance Department in Tübingen, 2011-2014 academic advisor there. From 2004-2008 editor of the lexicon Mythenrezeption. He received the Elise Richter Prize of the German Romance Writers' Association for this work in 2013. 2014-2017 Deputy Professor of Romance Literary Studies (W3) at the University of Trier. 2016 Appointed Professor of Romance Literary and Cultural Studies at the Karl-Franzens-University in Graz.
