Lukas Meyer provides voluntary professional work without pay (pro bono publico), also in accordance to the social responsibility of staff members of the University of Graz (see the Code of Ethics and Conduct of the University of Graz).

- Co-director of the project DENKZEITRAUM, since 2006
- Lead Author of the Fifth Assessment Report of the IPCC (International Panel on Climate Change), 2009-2014
- Co-director of the joint-project of the Humantities at the University of Graz REFUGEE AID - GEWI, 2015-2018
