Steffen Schneider studied German and Romance languages and literature in Cologne and Genoa. In 1998, he passed his first state examination in Cologne. From 1999 to 2002, he was a researcher at the graduate college Pragmatisierung/Entpragmatisierung - Die Literatur im Spannungsfeld ihrer autonomen und heteronomen Bestimmungen at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität in Tübingen.
