Steffen Schneider studied German and Romance languages and literature in Cologne and Genoa. In 1998, he passed his first state examination in Cologne. From 1999 to 2002, he was a researcher at the graduate college Pragmatisierung/Entpragmatisierung - Die Literatur im Spannungsfeld ihrer autonomen und heteronomen Bestimmungen at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität in Tübingen. He received his doctorate in 2003 with his thesis Archivpoetik - Die Funktion des Wissens in Goethes 'Faust II'. 2004-2011 Scientific Assistant at the Romanisches Seminar in Tübingen, 2011-2014 Academic Council. From 2004-2008 editor of the encyclopedia Mythenrezeption. In 2009, he received a DFG research grant and spent 2009-2010 one year at the Istituto lessico intellettuale europeo of the Centro nazionale di ricerca in Rome. 2009-2012 he headed the scientific network (DFG) Aisthetik der Geister - Die Rezeption der Spirituslehren in den Künssten und der Populärkultur der Frühen Neuzeit.
