Evaluation der Lehre

Alle Lehrveranstaltungen an der Universität Graz werden regelmäßig evaluiert, zuletzt 2017. Die Vorlesung Philosophie der Aufklärung vom Sommersemester 2014 wurde evaluiert, nachdem Studierende diese LV für den Lehrpreis 2014 nominiert hatten.

Das Centre for Educational Development and Academic Methods (CEDAM) führte 1992 bis 2009 Umfragen unter den TeilnehmerInnen der meisten meiner Lehrveranstaltungen durch. Die Ergebnisse waren durchwegs positiv.

2008 wurde ich für einen Teaching and Learning Award CASS (College of Arts and Social Sciences) in der Kategorie "Award for Teaching Excellence" nominiert.

Beispielbericht: CEDAM zur Lehrveranstaltung "European Philosophy":
'The tables ... show a generally high level of satisfaction with the unit. In particular, students rated highly the intellectual stimulation of the unit and the clarity of its structure'. 'Aspects of the unit which were praised included the subject matter itself, its relevance to contemporary European Philosophy, and the depth of its coverage'. 'The students were asked to rate, using a 7-point scale, Dr. Thiel's overall effectiveness as a university teacher. The mean rating of 1.8 was slightly above 'very good' on the scale'. 'The most consistent areas of praise were for the level of structure in the lectures and the clarity of his explanations.' Dr. Thiel 'knows the material very well and so he is able to explain it clearly and concisely. He is very well prepared and well organized'.

Das Centre for Teaching and Learning der University of Sydney führte 1991 eine Umfrage unter den TeilnehmerInnen meiner Lehrveranstaltungen Locke and Empiricism und Aesthetics durch. Die Ergebnisse zeigten eine hohe Zufriedenheit unter den Studierenden.
